LG’s Creepy New Screensaver Ads Will Haunt Your TV, Whether You Want Them To or Not
LG has just unleashed a sinister new feature on their TVs that will make your screen glow with an unsettling intensity, even when you’re not watching. Say hello to the "revolutionary" new screensaver ads that will plaster their products and third-party advertisements on your TV, even when you’re not actively watching it.
According to LG’s own press release, their "technology chief" Dave Rudnick claims that these ads are "effective" and will give brands a "valuable opportunity" to be "front and center" on the largest screen in the room. Because who doesn’t want their favorite brand’s logo burning into their retinas at 3 am?
But it gets even creepier. Rudnick also says that 93% of viewers multitask while watching TV, which means you’ll be bombarded with ads while you’re "relaxing" in front of the screen, doing god-knows-what on your phone.
And don’t even get me started on the lack of control. You’ll have to dig deep into your TV’s settings to disable these annoying ads. It’s like LG is trying to keep you captive, forcing you to gaze upon their products and slogans whether you like it or not.
This is just the beginning. LG is planning to bring their WebOS platform to even more devices, including non-TV hardware, in the next five years. That means you’ll be seeing more and more of these soulless ads creeping into every aspect of your life.
LG, you’re on notice. Your creepy ads are not welcome in my living room.
