Makhadzi Clarifies Relationship with Department of Sports, Arts and Culture
Makhadzi, a popular musician, has released a statement rejecting claims that she was paid R230,000 by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture (DSAC). The department had previously stated that it had been supporting Makhadzi over the past 14 months, booking her for several national engagements and paying her a sum of R230,000.
However, Makhadzi claims that this is not accurate. According to her, the department contacted her to perform at the June 16 event and Presidential Inauguration, which she did. Makhadzi states that the payment made by the department was for her service rendered, and not funding.
Department spokesperson Zimasa Velaphi had earlier stated that the department has been supporting Makhadzi over the past 14 months, and that she has received bookings for several national engagements. Velaphi emphasized that the department is committed to supporting creatives through various opportunities and taking their talents to communities locally and internationally.
Makhadzi’s statement has sparked controversy, with some questioning the accuracy of the department’s claims. The situation is currently under scrutiny, with both parties offering their sides of the story.
