Meta’s latest admission of defeat: the Quest Pro, a VR headset that was never meant to be, is being pulled from the market. It’s a testament to the company’s lack of innovation and willingness to throw millions of dollars down the drain. The remaining headsets will be sold until they’re gone, because what’s the point of clinging to a sinking ship? According to a blog post, which is just a cleverly disguised attempt to cover their tracks.
The Quest Pro was always a joke, a half-baked attempt at creating a professional-grade VR experience. My colleague Adi Robertson gave it a rating of 4, but even that seems generous. The device was a clunky, uncomfortable monstrosity, and its Workrooms experience was a total failure.
When the Quest Pro was first launched, it was laughed out of the market due to its outrageous price tag of $1,499. Even after Meta reduced the price to $999, it was still a ridiculous amount of money for a product that was always destined to fail. This is just another example of Meta’s complete lack of understanding of what people actually want.
